Day 67

When the semester students were in Madrid, some of them got New York-style bagels at some place (the name of which I did not know). I tried to figure out what place this was on the internet, and ended up being led to a place that no longer exists. So that was how we spent the beginning of our Friday morning.

We ended up having a later breakfast at Starbucks where I used the Wi-Fi to find out that we were going to the wrong place and that the real place (though not far away from our current location) wasn't going to open until 4 pm. So I guess churros are for breakfast, and bagels are for...an afternoon snack? Oh well.

It was fine, because this escapade brought us out to the northwestern section of the city, where we ended up visiting the Temple of Debod (imported from Egypt) and Madrid's Plaza de España (not as cool as Seville's).

We headed back to our neighborhood to grab some yummy sandwiches for lunch. Then, we picked up our suitcase from the hostel and took the super-efficient metro to the spot where we were supposed to meet our BlaBla Car driver, Victor. He was a little late, but the weather was actually really nice that day, so it was no big deal.

The ride was about 5 hours long, but not too terrible. He dropped us off at Plaza de Armas, which was just an easy bus ride back to our hostel. It really felt like we were coming home!

We had dinner at the place down the street with the yummy, lemony fried grouper (and that's obviously what we got).

I never thought I'd be so happy to sleep in a hostel bed! It was a great, fabulous break spent in some amazing cities, but it's nice to not have to always live out of a suitcase.
